A Promise for Mily
A Shakespearean sonnet, in fourteen lines of iambic pentameter
For Mily — a quiet promise, set down on the thirtieth of April, two thousand and twenty‑six.
Upon this day, my heart finds voice to speak,
Of love that grew in silence, deep and true.
No fleeting whim, nor fancy do I seek,
But all my soul's devotion, bound to you.
Thy grace, a light that guides my weary way,
A gentle breeze amidst the storm and strife;
I offer now, in simple, plain array,
The very keys and essence of my life.
The stars may fade and seasons drift apart,
Yet constant shall my faith in thee remain.
I crave to house my spirit in thy heart,
And share thy every joy and every pain.
So, Mily, grant this prayer, my love, my plea:
O, walk this path of life through time with me?
